Ingredients

  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 pound ground turkey
  • 1 yellow onion, diced
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon chili powder
  • 2 teaspoons ground cumin
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1 15-ounce canned diced tomatoes (with juice)
  • 1 15-ounce canned kidney beans, drained and rinsed
  • 1 15-ounce canned black beans, drained and rinsed
  • 1 8-ounce canned tomato sauce
  • 1 cup chicken broth
  • 0.5 teaspoon salt
  • 0.25 teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons fresh cilantro, chopped (optional, for garnish)
  • 0.5 cup shredded cheddar cheese (optional, for topping)
  • 0.25 cup sour cream (optional, for topping)

Directions

Step 1

Heat the olive oil in a large pot or Dutch oven over medium heat.

Step 2

Add the ground turkey and cook for 5-7 minutes, breaking it apart with a spoon, until browned and cooked through.

Step 3

Push the turkey to one side of the pot and add the diced onion and minced garlic to the other side. Sauté the onion and garlic for 2-3 minutes until softened and fragrant.

Step 4

Stir in the chili powder, ground cumin, and smoked paprika, mixing everything in the pot to combine and coat the turkey with spices.

Step 5

Add the canned diced tomatoes, kidney beans, black beans, tomato sauce, and chicken broth to the pot. Stir well to combine all the ingredients.

Step 6

Season the chili with salt and black pepper, adjusting to taste.

Step 7

Bring the chili to a gentle boil, then reduce the heat to low. Simmer uncovered for 10-15 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld.

Step 8

Serve the chili hot, garnished with fresh cilantro, shredded cheddar cheese, and a dollop of sour cream, if desired.
