Ingredients

  • 2.75 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons cream of tartar
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 0.5 teaspoons salt
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1.5 cups granulated sugar
  • 2 units large eggs
  • 2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon (for coating)
  • 3 tablespoons granulated sugar (for coating)

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and line two baking sheets with parchment paper or silicone baking mats.

Step 2

In a medium bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, cream of tartar, baking soda, and salt. Set aside.

Step 3

In a large mixing bowl, use a hand mixer or stand mixer to cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy, about 2–3 minutes.

Step 4

Add the eggs, one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Then stir in the vanilla extract.

Step 5

Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture. Mix until well combined, but do not overmix.

Step 6

In a small bowl, combine the sugar (for coating) and ground cinnamon. This will be used to coat your cookies.

Step 7

Scoop about 1.5 tablespoons of dough and roll it into a ball. Roll each ball in the cinnamon-sugar mixture until thoroughly coated.

Step 8

Place the coated dough balls onto the prepared baking sheets, spacing them about 2 inches apart.

Step 9

Bake in the preheated oven for 8–10 minutes, until the edges are set but the centers look slightly underbaked. Do not overbake to ensure soft cookies.

Step 10

Let the cookies cool on the baking sheets for 5 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
