Ingredients

  • 4 large (about 2 lbs total) sweet potatoes
  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 0.25 cup brown sugar
  • 0.5 cup heavy cream
  • 2 tablespoons dry sherry
  • 0.5 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 0.25 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 0.5 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 0.25 cup chopped pecans (optional, for garnish)

Directions

Step 1

Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C).

Step 2

Wash and scrub the sweet potatoes, then pierce each one several times with a fork. Place them on a baking sheet lined with aluminum foil.

Step 3

Bake the sweet potatoes in the preheated oven for 40–50 minutes or until they are very soft and easily pierced with a knife.

Step 4

Remove the sweet potatoes from the oven and allow them to cool for 10 minutes. Once cool enough to handle, peel off the skins and place the flesh in a large mixing bowl.

Step 5

Add the unsalted butter, brown sugar, heavy cream, dry sherry, ground cinnamon, ground nutmeg, and kosher salt to the sweet potato flesh.

Step 6

Using a hand mixer or potato masher, blend the mixture until smooth and creamy. Taste and adjust seasoning if needed.

Step 7

Transfer the sweet potato mixture to a serving dish and sprinkle with chopped pecans, if desired.

Step 8

Serve warm and enjoy!
