Ingredients

  • 16 oz medium pasta shells
  • 1 lb ground beef or ground turkey
  • 1 medium onion, finely diced
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 28 oz crushed tomatoes
  • 15 oz tomato sauce
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 2 tsp Italian seasoning
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 0.5 tsp black pepper
  • 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1 cup ricotta cheese
  • 2 tbsp fresh parsley, chopped (optional, for garnish)

Directions

Step 1

In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef or turkey until browned and fully cooked, breaking it apart with a wooden spoon. Drain any excess fat and transfer the meat to a plate.

Step 2

In the same skillet, sauté the diced onion until softened, about 3-4 minutes. Add the minced garlic and cook for another 1 minute until fragrant.

Step 3

Transfer the cooked meat, onion, and garlic mixture into your crock pot.

Step 4

Add the crushed tomatoes, tomato sauce, beef broth, Italian seasoning, salt, and black pepper to the crock pot. Stir everything together until well combined.

Step 5

Pour the uncooked pasta shells into the mixture and stir to ensure the shells are coated in the sauce.

Step 6

Cover and cook on low heat for 3-4 hours or until the pasta is tender. Stir halfway through cooking to prevent the pasta from sticking to the sides.

Step 7

About 10 minutes before serving, stir in the ricotta cheese until fully incorporated. Sprinkle the shredded mozzarella cheese evenly over the top and cover to allow the cheese to melt.

Step 8

Serve the shell casserole warm, garnished with chopped parsley if desired.
