Ingredients

  • 1 pound Ground pork
  • 1 pound Ground beef
  • 1 medium Onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves Garlic, minced
  • 2 medium Potatoes, peeled and grated
  • 0.5 teaspoon Cinnamon
  • 0.5 teaspoon Allspice
  • 0.25 teaspoon Cloves, ground
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 0.5 teaspoon Black pepper
  • 0.5 cup Beef broth
  • 2 9-inch rounds Pie crust, homemade or store-bought
  • 1 large Egg, beaten (for egg wash)

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).

Step 2

In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the ground pork and ground beef until browned, breaking it up with a spoon as it cooks. Drain any excess fat.

Step 3

Add the onion and garlic to the skillet. Cook for about 3-4 minutes, or until the onion is soft and translucent.

Step 4

Stir in the grated potatoes, cinnamon, allspice, cloves, salt, and black pepper. Mix well to combine.

Step 5

Pour in the beef broth and simmer the mixture for 10 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the liquid is mostly absorbed and the filling is well combined. Remove from heat and let it cool slightly.

Step 6

Place one pie crust onto a 9-inch pie dish, pressing it gently into the dish. Trim any excess dough hanging over the edges.

Step 7

Spoon the meat filling into the pie crust, spreading it out evenly.

Step 8

Cover the pie with the second pie crust. Trim any overhanging dough and press the edges together to seal. Crimp the edges with a fork or your fingers for decorative sealing.

Step 9

Cut a few small slits into the top crust to allow steam to escape while baking.

Step 10

Brush the top crust with the beaten egg to give it a golden, glossy finish.

Step 11

Bake in the preheated oven for 40-45 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and flaky.

Step 12

Remove the tourtière from the oven and let it cool for about 10 minutes before slicing and serving.
