Ingredients

  • 500 grams Fresh strawberries
  • 50 grams Granulated sugar
  • 300 grams Vanilla sponge cake
  • 500 ml Vanilla custard
  • 250 ml Heavy whipping cream
  • 30 grams Powdered sugar
  • 1 tsp Vanilla extract
  • 2 tbsp Strawberry jam

Directions

Step 1

Wash and hull the strawberries, then slice them into thin pieces. Place the strawberries in a mixing bowl, sprinkle with granulated sugar, and gently toss. Let this sit for 10 minutes to macerate.

Step 2

Cut the vanilla sponge cake into bite-sized cubes, approximately 1-inch pieces, and set aside.

Step 3

In a separate bowl, whip the heavy whipping cream with powdered sugar and vanilla extract until soft peaks form. Do not overwhip.

Step 4

In a trifle bowl or glass serving dish, start layering the ingredients. Begin with a layer of sponge cake cubes at the bottom.

Step 5

Spread one tablespoon of strawberry jam evenly over the cake layer.

Step 6

Spoon a layer of macerated strawberries (including their juices) on top of the cake cubes.

Step 7

Pour a layer of vanilla custard over the strawberries, making sure to spread it evenly to cover the layer below.

Step 8

Add a layer of whipped cream on top of the custard, smoothing it gently with a spatula.

Step 9

Repeat the layering process (sponge cake, jam, strawberries, custard, whipped cream) until all ingredients are used, ending with whipped cream as the top layer.

Step 10

For decoration, arrange a few fresh strawberry slices or whole strawberries on top of the final whipped cream layer.

Step 11

Refrigerate the trifle for at least 1 hour before serving to allow the flavors to meld and the layers to set.
