Ingredients

  • 2 pounds Chicken wings
  • 0.5 cup Soy sauce
  • 0.5 cup Honey
  • 2 tablespoons White vinegar
  • 3 tablespoons Brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon Garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon Ginger, minced
  • 1 tablespoon Cornstarch
  • 2 tablespoons Water (for cornstarch slurry)
  • 0.5 teaspoon Red pepper flakes
  • 4 cups Vegetable oil (for frying)
  • 2 tablespoons Green onion, chopped (for garnish)
  • 1 tablespoon Sesame seeds (for garnish)

Directions

Step 1

Prepare the sauce by combining soy sauce, honey, white vinegar, brown sugar, minced garlic, minced ginger, and red pepper flakes in a medium saucepan over medium heat.

Step 2

Bring the mixture to a gentle simmer, stirring occasionally to ensure the sugar dissolves completely.

Step 3

In a small bowl, mix the cornstarch with water to create a slurry. Slowly add the slurry to the simmering sauce while stirring continuously. Cook the sauce for 1-2 minutes until it thickens slightly. Remove the sauce from heat and set aside.

Step 4

Heat the vegetable oil in a large, deep skillet or frying pot to 375°F (190°C).

Step 5

Pat the chicken wings dry with paper towels and carefully add them to the hot oil in small batches, making sure not to overcrowd the pan.

Step 6

Fry the wings for 8-10 minutes or until golden brown and crispy. Remove the wings and place them on a plate lined with paper towels to drain excess oil.

Step 7

Once all wings are fried, place them in a large mixing bowl. Pour the prepared sauce over the wings and toss until evenly coated.

Step 8

Transfer the coated wings to a serving platter and garnish with chopped green onions and sesame seeds.

Step 9

Serve immediately and enjoy your Shanghai Wings!
