Ingredients

  • 500 grams Ground chicken
  • 1 large Egg
  • 60 grams Breadcrumbs
  • 2 cloves Garlic
  • 2 teaspoons Ginger
  • 3 tablespoons Soy sauce
  • 1 teaspoon Sesame oil
  • 3 stalks Green onion
  • 1 tablespoon Cornstarch
  • 2 tablespoons Vegetable oil
  • 4 tablespoons Hoisin sauce
  • 1 tablespoon Rice vinegar
  • 2 teaspoons Honey
  • 120 milliliters Chicken broth
  • 0.5 teaspoons Red chili flakes

Directions

Step 1

Finely chop the garlic, grate the ginger, and slice the green onions thinly. Divide half of the green onions and set aside for garnish.

Step 2

In a large mixing bowl, combine ground chicken, egg, breadcrumbs, half of the garlic, half of the ginger, 1 tablespoon of soy sauce, sesame oil, and half of the sliced green onions. Mix well until combined.

Step 3

Using damp hands, shape the chicken mixture into bite-sized meatballs, about 1.5 inches in diameter. You should have about 16-20 meatballs.

Step 4

In a large skillet, heat 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil over medium heat. Add the meatballs in batches, cooking for 4-5 minutes on each side until they are golden brown and cooked through. Remove and set aside on a plate.

Step 5

In the same skillet, add the remaining garlic and ginger. Sauté for 1 minute until fragrant.

Step 6

In a small bowl, whisk together the hoisin sauce, remaining soy sauce, rice vinegar, honey, chicken broth, and cornstarch until smooth.

Step 7

Pour the sauce mixture into the skillet, stirring constantly until it begins to thicken, about 2-3 minutes.

Step 8

Reduce the heat to low, return the meatballs to the skillet, and gently toss them in the sauce to coat. Let them simmer in the sauce for an additional 5 minutes.

Step 9

Sprinkle the reserved green onions and red chili flakes over the meatballs for garnish.

Step 10

Serve hot as a standalone appetizer or over steamed white rice or noodles for a satisfying meal.
