Ingredients

  • 4 pieces (6 ounces each) Fresh tuna steaks
  • 3 tablespoons Soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons Sesame oil
  • 2 tablespoons Lime juice
  • 2 cloves Garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon Fresh ginger, grated
  • 2 tablespoons Black sesame seeds
  • 2 tablespoons White sesame seeds
  • 2 tablespoons Vegetable oil
  • 0.5 teaspoon Salt
  • 0.5 teaspoon Black pepper

Directions

Step 1

In a small mixing bowl, combine soy sauce, sesame oil, lime juice, minced garlic, and grated ginger. Whisk together to create the marinade.

Step 2

Place the tuna steaks in a shallow dish and pour the marinade over them, ensuring they are evenly coated. Cover and refrigerate for 10 minutes.

Step 3

Meanwhile, in a small bowl, combine black sesame seeds and white sesame seeds.

Step 4

Remove the tuna steaks from the marinade and let any excess drip off. Sprinkle both sides of the tuna with salt and black pepper, then press them into the sesame seed mixture to coat evenly.

Step 5

Heat the vegetable oil in a nonstick skillet or cast-iron pan over medium-high heat until shimmering.

Step 6

Carefully add the sesame-coated tuna steaks to the pan. Sear for about 1 to 2 minutes per side for rare doneness, or 3 to 4 minutes per side for medium doneness. Take care not to overcook as tuna can become dry.

Step 7

Remove the tuna steaks from the pan and let rest for 1 to 2 minutes before serving.

Step 8

Serve the sesame seared tuna steaks immediately, either on their own or atop a fresh salad or steamed rice.
