Ingredients

  • 4 tablespoons white sesame seeds
  • 2 teaspoons sea salt

Directions

Step 1

Heat a dry, heavy-bottomed skillet over medium heat.

Step 2

Add the white sesame seeds to the skillet and toast them, stirring frequently with a wooden spoon or spatula, for 3-5 minutes. The sesame seeds are done when they are golden brown, fragrant, and begin to pop.

Step 3

Remove the toasted sesame seeds from the skillet and transfer them to a plate to cool for 2-3 minutes.

Step 4

Once cooled, combine the toasted sesame seeds and sea salt in a mortar and pestle or spice grinder.

Step 5

Gently grind the mixture until the sesame seeds are partially crushed and evenly distributed with the salt. Aim for a coarse texture rather than a fine powder.

Step 6

Taste the sesame salt and adjust the saltiness by adding more sea salt, if desired.

Step 7

Transfer the sesame salt to an airtight container or spice jar and store in a cool, dry place. It will keep fresh for up to 1 month.
