Ingredients

  • 8 cups kale
  • 2 tablespoons sesame oil
  • 3 units garlic cloves
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce (low sodium)
  • 1 tablespoon sesame seeds
  • 0.25 teaspoons red pepper flakes (optional)
  • 2 tablespoons water

Directions

Step 1

Wash the kale thoroughly, remove the thick stems, and roughly chop the leaves into bite-sized pieces.

Step 2

Peel and mince the garlic cloves.

Step 3

Heat a large skillet or wok over medium heat and add the sesame oil.

Step 4

Once the oil is hot, add the minced garlic and sauté for about 30 seconds until fragrant, being careful not to let it burn.

Step 5

Add the chopped kale to the skillet and toss to coat it evenly in the sesame oil and garlic.

Step 6

Pour in the water and cover the skillet with a lid. Let the kale steam for 3-4 minutes until it starts to wilt.

Step 7

Remove the lid, stir the kale, and add the soy sauce. Cook for another 2-3 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the kale is tender and the liquid has mostly evaporated.

Step 8

Sprinkle the sesame seeds and red pepper flakes (if using) over the kale and toss everything well to combine.

Step 9

Remove the skillet from the heat and transfer the sesame kale to a serving dish. Serve warm as a side dish or enjoy on its own!
