Ingredients

  • 1 cup All-purpose flour
  • 0.75 cup Granulated sugar
  • 0.33 cup Unsweetened cocoa powder (divided)
  • 2 teaspoons Baking powder
  • 0.25 teaspoon Salt
  • 0.5 cup Milk
  • 2 tablespoons Unsalted butter (melted)
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla extract
  • 0.75 cup Brown sugar
  • 1.5 cups Boiling water

Directions

Step 1

In a medium mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, granulated sugar, 2 tablespoons of the cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt.

Step 2

Stir in the milk, melted butter, and vanilla extract until a smooth batter forms.

Step 3

Grease the inside of a slow cooker with nonstick cooking spray or butter and spread the batter evenly across the bottom.

Step 4

In a separate small bowl, mix the brown sugar and remaining cocoa powder (about 1/4 cup). Sprinkle this mixture evenly over the batter in the slow cooker.

Step 5

Carefully pour the boiling water over the top of the batter and sugar mixture. Do not stir.

Step 6

Cover the slow cooker with its lid and cook on high for 2 hours, or until the cake has set on top and a thick fudge sauce has formed underneath.

Step 7

Once cooked, turn off the slow cooker and let the cake sit for about 15 minutes to cool slightly.

Step 8

Scoop the cake into bowls, making sure to spoon some of the fudge sauce from the bottom of the slow cooker over each serving.

Step 9

Serve warm, optionally garnished with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream.
