Ingredients

  • 2 pieces (6-8 oz each) Ahi tuna steaks
  • 2 tablespoons Soy sauce
  • 2 teaspoons Wasabi paste
  • 1 teaspoon Rice vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon Honey
  • 3 tablespoons Sesame seeds
  • 2 tablespoons Vegetable oil
  • 0.5 teaspoons Salt
  • 0.25 teaspoons Black pepper
  • 2 stalks Green onions (optional, for garnish)

Directions

Step 1

In a small bowl, mix soy sauce, wasabi paste, rice vinegar, and honey until well combined. Set aside as the dipping sauce.

Step 2

Pat the tuna steaks dry with paper towels. Season both sides with salt and black pepper.

Step 3

Spread the sesame seeds evenly on a plate. Press each tuna steak into the sesame seeds on both sides to create a crust.

Step 4

Heat the vegetable oil in a heavy-bottomed skillet or cast-iron pan over high heat until shimmering.

Step 5

Carefully place the tuna steaks into the hot pan. Sear for 1-2 minutes on each side for rare to medium-rare doneness. Adjust the cooking time if you prefer a more well-done interior.

Step 6

Remove the tuna steaks from the pan and allow them to rest for 1-2 minutes before slicing into thin strips.

Step 7

Serve the seared tuna with the prepared wasabi dipping sauce on the side. Garnish with chopped green onions if desired.
