Ingredients

  • 2 pieces (6 oz each) tuna steaks
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 3 tablespoons black and white sesame seeds
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 0.25 cup mayonnaise
  • 2 teaspoons wasabi paste
  • 2 tablespoons green onions (finely chopped)
  • 1 teaspoon lemon juice
  • 0.5 teaspoon salt
  • 0.25 teaspoon black pepper

Directions

Step 1

In a small bowl, mix soy sauce and sesame oil. Brush the mixture over both sides of the tuna steaks.

Step 2

On a separate plate, spread the sesame seeds evenly. Gently press each side of the tuna steaks onto the seeds to coat them.

Step 3

In a medium non-stick skillet, heat olive oil over medium-high heat. When the oil is hot, add the sesame-coated tuna steaks.

Step 4

Sear the tuna for 1-2 minutes per side, depending on your desired doneness. For a traditional seared tuna, the inside should remain pink and rare. Remove from the skillet and let rest for a few minutes.

Step 5

In another small bowl, combine the mayonnaise, wasabi paste, green onions, lemon juice, salt, and black pepper. Mix well to form the wasabi green onion mayo.

Step 6

Slice the tuna steaks into thick strips and arrange them on a serving plate. Drizzle or dollop the wasabi green onion mayo over the tuna.

Step 7

Serve immediately, optionally garnished with extra chopped green onions or a wedge of lemon on the side.
