Ingredients

  • 500 grams Shrimp
  • 300 grams Scallops
  • 4 tablespoons Butter
  • 2 tablespoons All-purpose flour
  • 2 cups Milk
  • 1 cup Heavy cream
  • 3 cloves Garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 medium White onion, finely diced
  • 1.5 cups Parmesan cheese, grated
  • 1 cup Cheddar cheese, shredded
  • 1 cup Breadcrumbs
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 0.5 teaspoon Black pepper
  • 0.25 teaspoon Nutmeg
  • 2 tablespoons Fresh parsley, chopped (optional garnish)

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).

Step 2

Clean the shrimp by peeling, deveining, and rinsing under cold water. Pat them dry with a paper towel. Clean the scallops, removing the tough muscle if necessary, and pat them dry.

Step 3

In a large skillet, melt 1 tablespoon of butter over medium heat. Add the shrimp and scallops, cooking for 2-3 minutes on each side until slightly opaque. Remove from the skillet and set aside.

Step 4

In the same skillet, add the remaining 3 tablespoons of butter. Stir in the minced garlic and diced onion, cooking for 2-3 minutes until softened and fragrant.

Step 5

Sprinkle in the flour and whisk continuously for 1-2 minutes to form a smooth roux.

Step 6

Gradually pour in the milk and heavy cream, whisking constantly to prevent lumps. Cook the mixture for 3-5 minutes until it thickens.

Step 7

Stir in 1 cup of Parmesan cheese and all of the cheddar cheese, allowing it to melt completely. Add the salt, black pepper, and nutmeg, adjusting the seasoning to taste.

Step 8

Fold in the cooked shrimp and scallops, ensuring they are evenly coated in the cheese sauce.

Step 9

Transfer the mixture to a greased 9x13-inch baking dish and spread it into an even layer.

Step 10

In a small bowl, combine the breadcrumbs and the remaining 0.5 cup of Parmesan cheese. Sprinkle this mixture evenly over the top of the seafood.

Step 11

Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and bubbling.

Step 12

Remove from the oven and let it rest for 5 minutes before serving. Garnish with fresh parsley if desired.
