Ingredients

  • 1 lb Ground beef
  • 1 medium Yellow onion, finely chopped
  • 0.75 cup Ketchup
  • 2 tablespoons Tomato paste
  • 2 tablespoons Brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 teaspoons Apple cider vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon Garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 0.5 teaspoon Black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon Olive oil
  • 4 Burger buns
  • 2 tablespoons Butter (optional, for toasting buns)

Directions

Step 1

Heat a large skillet over medium heat and add olive oil.

Step 2

Add the chopped onion to the skillet and sauté for 3-4 minutes until softened and translucent.

Step 3

Increase the heat to medium-high and add the ground beef to the skillet. Break the beef into small crumbles with a wooden spoon and cook until browned and fully cooked, about 5-6 minutes. Drain any excess fat from the skillet if necessary.

Step 4

Reduce the heat to medium and stir in the ketchup, tomato paste, brown sugar, Dijon mustard, Worcestershire sauce, apple cider vinegar, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper. Mix well to combine.

Step 5

Let the mixture simmer for 8-10 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the sauce thickens slightly and coats the beef evenly.

Step 6

While the beef mixture simmers, slice the burger buns in half. Optional: Spread butter on the cut sides of the buns and toast them in a separate skillet or under a broiler until golden brown.

Step 7

Spoon the Sloppy Joe mixture onto the bottom halves of the burger buns, dividing it evenly among the 4 servings.

Step 8

Top with the other half of the bun and serve immediately. Enjoy your Scott S Sloppy Joes with your favorite side dish, like coleslaw or fries!
