Ingredients

  • 1 cup Whole milk
  • 4 tablespoons Unsalted butter
  • 1 packet Active dry yeast
  • 1 third cup Warm water (110°F/45°C)
  • 3 tablespoons Granulated sugar
  • 2 pieces Large eggs
  • 4 cups All-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 1 enough to grease the bowl and baking dish Vegetable oil or nonstick spray

Directions

Step 1

In a small saucepan, heat the milk over medium heat until it begins to steam but does not boil. Remove from heat and stir in the butter. Let the mixture cool to lukewarm.

Step 2

In a small bowl, dissolve the yeast in the warm water. Stir in 1 tablespoon of the sugar and let the mixture sit for about 5 minutes, or until it becomes foamy.

Step 3

In a large mixing bowl, combine the lukewarm milk mixture, the yeast mixture, the remaining sugar, and the eggs. Whisk until well blended.

Step 4

Gradually add the flour and salt to the wet ingredients, stirring with a wooden spoon or using a stand mixer with a dough hook attachment. Continue kneading (by hand or with the mixer) for 7-10 minutes until the dough is smooth and elastic. If the dough is very sticky, add a small amount of flour, 1 tablespoon at a time.

Step 5

Lightly grease a large bowl with vegetable oil or nonstick spray. Place the dough into the bowl, turning it to coat all sides with oil. Cover the bowl with a clean kitchen towel or plastic wrap and allow the dough to rise in a warm, draft-free place for 1 to 1.5 hours, or until it has doubled in size.

Step 6

Punch down the dough and turn it out onto a lightly floured surface. Divide the dough into 12 equal pieces and shape each piece into a ball. Arrange the dough balls in a lightly greased 9x13-inch baking dish, spacing them evenly apart.

Step 7

Cover the rolls loosely with plastic wrap or a kitchen towel and let them rise again for 30-45 minutes, or until they have doubled in size.

Step 8

Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).

Step 9

Bake the rolls in the preheated oven for 18-20 minutes, or until they are golden brown on top.

Step 10

Remove the rolls from the oven and brush the tops with additional melted butter, if desired. Allow them to cool for a few minutes before serving.
