Ingredients

  • 6 cups Fresh broccoli florets
  • 4 tablespoons Unsalted butter
  • 3 tablespoons All-purpose flour
  • 2 cups Whole milk
  • 2 cups Shredded cheddar cheese
  • 0.5 cups Grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 teaspoon Garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon Onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 0.5 teaspoons Black pepper
  • 0.75 cups Panko breadcrumbs
  • 2 tablespoons Olive oil

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a 9x13-inch casserole dish lightly with cooking spray or a small amount of butter and set aside.

Step 2

Bring a large pot of water to a boil. Add the broccoli florets and blanch for 2 minutes. Drain immediately and rinse under cold water to stop the cooking process. Set the broccoli aside.

Step 3

In a medium saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter. Once melted, whisk in the flour and cook for 1 minute, stirring constantly to create a roux.

Step 4

Gradually whisk in the milk, ensuring there are no lumps. Continue to cook, stirring frequently, until the mixture thickens (about 3-4 minutes).

Step 5

Reduce the heat to low and stir in the cheddar cheese and Parmesan cheese until fully melted and smooth. Mix in the garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and black pepper.

Step 6

Spread half of the blanched broccoli florets evenly in the prepared casserole dish. Pour half of the cheese sauce over the broccoli. Repeat with the remaining broccoli and cheese sauce, creating two layers.

Step 7

In a small bowl, combine the panko breadcrumbs and olive oil. Stir until the breadcrumbs are evenly coated. Sprinkle the breadcrumb mixture evenly over the top of the casserole.

Step 8

Place the casserole dish in the preheated oven and bake for 25-30 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and bubbly.

Step 9

Remove the casserole from the oven and let it cool for 5 minutes before serving.
