Ingredients

  • 1.5 pounds ground beef
  • 0.5 pounds Italian sausage
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs
  • 0.5 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 0.25 cup milk
  • 2 large egg
  • 0.5 cup finely chopped onion
  • 3 cloves minced garlic
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 0.5 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 cup marinara sauce
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 2 tablespoons fresh parsley (optional, for garnish)

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and lightly grease a loaf pan or baking dish.

Step 2

In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, Italian sausage, breadcrumbs, Parmesan cheese, milk, eggs, onion, garlic, oregano, basil, salt, and black pepper. Mix gently with your hands or a spatula until evenly combined. Avoid overmixing to keep the meatloaf tender.

Step 3

Transfer the meat mixture to the prepared loaf pan, shaping it into a loaf if not using a pre-shaped pan.

Step 4

Spread 1/2 cup of marinara sauce evenly over the top of the meatloaf.

Step 5

Place the loaf pan in the oven and bake for 45 minutes.

Step 6

Remove the meatloaf from the oven and sprinkle the shredded mozzarella cheese over the top. Then, spread the remaining 1/2 cup of marinara sauce on top of the cheese.

Step 7

Return the meatloaf to the oven and bake for an additional 15 minutes, or until the internal temperature reaches 160°F (71°C). Use a meat thermometer for accuracy.

Step 8

Allow the meatloaf to rest for 10 minutes before slicing to help it hold its shape.

Step 9

Garnish with freshly chopped parsley if desired, and serve warm. Pair with a side of mashed potatoes, roasted vegetables, or a crisp salad.
