Ingredients

  • 1 head Savoy cabbage
  • 6 slices Bacon
  • 2 cloves Garlic
  • 2 tablespoons Unsalted butter
  • 1 tablespoon Olive oil
  • 0.5 teaspoons Salt
  • 0.25 teaspoons Black pepper
  • 0.25 teaspoons Red pepper flakes (optional)

Directions

Step 1

Remove the outer leaves of the Savoy cabbage, rinse it under cold water, and pat dry. Cut the cabbage in half, remove the core, and slice it into thin strips.

Step 2

Chop the bacon slices into bite-sized pieces.

Step 3

Peel and finely mince the garlic cloves.

Step 4

Heat a large skillet or sauté pan over medium heat. Add the chopped bacon and cook until crispy, about 6-8 minutes, stirring occasionally. Remove the cooked bacon with a slotted spoon and set aside on a plate lined with paper towels.

Step 5

In the same skillet, reduce the heat to medium-low and add the olive oil and butter. Allow the butter to melt completely, then stir in the minced garlic. Sauté the garlic until fragrant, about 1 minute.

Step 6

Increase the heat to medium and add the sliced Savoy cabbage to the skillet. Stir to coat the cabbage in the butter and garlic mixture.

Step 7

Season the cabbage with salt, black pepper, and red pepper flakes (if using). Stir well to distribute the seasoning evenly.

Step 8

Cook the cabbage, stirring occasionally, for about 10 minutes or until tender but still slightly crisp. Adjust the heat as needed to prevent browning or sticking.

Step 9

Add the crispy bacon back to the skillet and toss to combine with the cabbage.

Step 10

Taste and adjust the seasoning as needed. Serve immediately as a side dish with your favorite main course.
