Ingredients

  • 2 cups Thai glutinous rice (sticky rice)
  • 2.5 cups Water
  • 3 cloves Garlic, minced
  • 3 tablespoons Soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons Oyster sauce
  • 1 tablespoon Sesame oil
  • 2 stalks Green onions, thinly sliced
  • 1 tablespoon Vegetable oil
  • 2 tablespoons Fresh cilantro (optional, for garnish)
  • 2 tablespoons Crushed roasted peanuts (optional, for garnish)

Directions

Step 1

Rinse the Thai glutinous rice under cold water until the water runs clear. Soak the rice in water for at least 4 hours or overnight for best results.

Step 2

Drain the soaked rice and transfer it to a steaming basket or cloth-lined steamer. Add the 2.5 cups of water to a pot and set the steamer over the pot. Steam the rice on medium-high heat for 20-25 minutes, or until tender and sticky. Set aside.

Step 3

In a large skillet or wok, heat the vegetable oil over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and sauté for 1-2 minutes, or until fragrant and lightly golden.

Step 4

Reduce the heat to low and stir in the soy sauce, oyster sauce, and sesame oil. Mix well to combine.

Step 5

Gently fold the cooked sticky rice into the skillet, making sure the sauce thoroughly coats the rice. Be careful not to mash the rice.

Step 6

Sprinkle the sliced green onions over the rice and stir gently to incorporate. Cook for an additional 2-3 minutes until the rice is heated through.

Step 7

Transfer the savory Thai sticky rice to a serving dish. Garnish with fresh cilantro and crushed roasted peanuts, if desired.

Step 8

Serve warm as a side dish or enjoy it on its own!
