Ingredients

  • 1 cup textured vegetable protein (TVP)
  • 1 cup vegetable broth
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 0.5 teaspoons cumin
  • 0.5 teaspoons black pepper
  • 0.5 teaspoons salt
  • 2 tablespoons nutritional yeast

Directions

Step 1

In a medium bowl, combine the textured vegetable protein (TVP) with the vegetable broth. Stir well and let it sit for about 5 minutes until the TVP rehydrates and absorbs the liquid.

Step 2

In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat.

Step 3

Once the oil is hot, add the rehydrated TVP to the skillet, spreading it evenly across the surface.

Step 4

Pour the soy sauce over the TVP and stir well to ensure even coating.

Step 5

Add onion powder, garlic powder, smoked paprika, cumin, black pepper, and salt to the skillet. Stir continuously for about 5-7 minutes until the TVP begins to crisp and brown slightly.

Step 6

Sprinkle the nutritional yeast over the TVP and mix it in thoroughly. Continue cooking for another 5 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the crumble becomes slightly crispy and golden.

Step 7

Remove the skillet from heat and let the protein crumble cool slightly.

Step 8

Serve the protein crumble warm as a topping for salads, casseroles, tacos, or enjoy it as a standalone protein-packed dish.
