Ingredients

  • 4 pieces Tilapia fillets
  • 4 tablespoons Olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon Chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon Cumin
  • 0.5 teaspoon Garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 0.5 teaspoon Black pepper
  • 1 large Red bell pepper
  • 1 large Yellow bell pepper
  • 1 large Red onion
  • 8 pieces Corn or flour tortillas
  • 1 large Lime
  • 0.25 cup Fresh cilantro
  • 0.5 cup Sour cream or crema
  • 0.25 cup Fresh salsa (optional)

Directions

Step 1

1. Prepare the tilapia by patting the fillets dry with paper towels. In a small bowl, mix the chili powder, cumin, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper.

Step 2

2. Season both sides of the tilapia fillets evenly with the prepared spice blend.

Step 3

3. Heat 2 tablespoons of olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the tilapia fillets and cook for 3-4 minutes per side, or until the fish is cooked through and flakes easily with a fork. Remove from heat and set aside.

Step 4

4. While the tilapia is cooking, cut the red bell pepper, yellow bell pepper, and red onion into thin slices.

Step 5

5. Heat the remaining 2 tablespoons of olive oil in a separate skillet or grill pan over medium-high heat. Add the bell peppers and onions, and cook for 5-7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until charred and softened. Remove from heat.

Step 6

6. Warm the corn or flour tortillas in a dry skillet, over an open flame, or in the microwave for a few seconds until pliable.

Step 7

7. Assemble the tacos by flaking the cooked tilapia into chunks and placing them onto the warmed tortillas. Top with grilled peppers and onions.

Step 8

8. Squeeze fresh lime juice over the tacos and garnish with chopped cilantro. Add a dollop of sour cream or crema and fresh salsa, if desired.

Step 9

9. Serve immediately and enjoy your flavorful sautéed tilapia tacos with grilled peppers and onions!
