Ingredients

  • 1 bunch Swiss chard (leaves and stems)
  • 2 tablespoons Olive oil
  • 3 cloves Garlic
  • 0.5 teaspoons Red pepper flakes
  • 2 teaspoons Lemon juice
  • 0.5 teaspoons Salt
  • 0.25 teaspoons Black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons Water or vegetable stock

Directions

Step 1

Thoroughly wash the Swiss chard to remove any dirt or grit. Pat it dry with a clean kitchen towel or paper towels.

Step 2

Separate the leaves from the stems. Roughly chop the leaves into bite-sized pieces and slice the stems into 1/4-inch pieces.

Step 3

Peel and thinly slice the garlic cloves.

Step 4

Heat a large skillet over medium heat and add the olive oil. Once the oil is shimmering, add the garlic slices and sauté until fragrant, about 1 minute. Be careful not to let the garlic burn.

Step 5

Add the sliced chard stems to the skillet and sauté for 2-3 minutes, or until they begin to soften.

Step 6

Add the chard leaves to the skillet in batches if necessary, stirring to incorporate as they wilt down.

Step 7

Sprinkle the red pepper flakes, salt, and black pepper over the chard. Stir to combine.

Step 8

Add the water or vegetable stock to the skillet. Cover and let the chard steam for 2-3 minutes, or until tender.

Step 9

Remove the skillet from the heat. Drizzle the sautéed chard with lemon juice and give it one last stir.

Step 10

Transfer the chard to a serving dish and serve warm. Enjoy!
