Ingredients

  • 450 grams fresh green beans
  • 4 medium-sized garlic cloves
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 2 teaspoons soy sauce
  • 1 teaspoon honey
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 0.5 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 0.25 teaspoon black pepper
  • 60 milliliters water
  • 0.25 teaspoon red chili flakes (optional)

Directions

Step 1

Wash and trim the ends off the green beans. Pat them dry with a clean kitchen towel or paper towel.

Step 2

Peel and finely mince the garlic cloves.

Step 3

In a large skillet or sauté pan, heat the olive oil over medium heat until shimmering.

Step 4

Add the minced garlic to the skillet and sauté for 30 seconds to 1 minute, stirring constantly, until fragrant but not browned.

Step 5

Add the prepared green beans to the skillet, tossing to coat them evenly in the garlic-flavored oil.

Step 6

Pour in the water and cover the skillet with a lid. Let the green beans steam for 4 to 5 minutes, stirring once halfway through, until they begin to soften but still retain a slight crunch.

Step 7

Uncover the skillet and cook for another 3 to 4 minutes, letting the water evaporate completely while stirring occasionally.

Step 8

Reduce the heat to medium-low and add the butter, soy sauce, honey, salt, and black pepper (and chili flakes, if using). Stir well to evenly coat the green beans in the glaze.

Step 9

Continue to sauté the green beans for an additional 2 to 3 minutes, allowing the glaze to thicken slightly and stick to the beans.

Step 10

Remove the skillet from heat and transfer the garlic-glazed green beans to a serving dish. Serve warm as a side dish.
