Ingredients

  • 4 whole ripe bananas
  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1 cup packed light brown sugar
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 6 whole cardamom pods
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup pecans
  • 0.25 teaspoons sea salt
  • 0.25 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • 1 tablespoon neutral oil (such as vegetable oil)

Directions

Step 1

Peel the bananas and slice them diagonally into 1/2-inch thick slices. Set aside.

Step 2

Crush the cardamom pods lightly with the side of a knife to release the seeds and fragrance.

Step 3

In a medium saucepan over medium heat, add the butter and let it melt completely.

Step 4

Stir in the brown sugar and crushed cardamom pods, allowing the mixture to simmer for 2-3 minutes until the sugar has dissolved and it starts to bubble.

Step 5

Slowly pour in the heavy cream while stirring continuously. Cook for another 2-3 minutes until the sauce thickens slightly.

Step 6

Reduce the heat to low and add the vanilla extract, pecans, sea salt, and ground cinnamon. Stir to combine. Remove from heat and cover to keep warm.

Step 7

In a large non-stick skillet, heat the neutral oil over medium-high heat.

Step 8

Add the banana slices to the skillet in a single layer. Saute for 1-2 minutes on each side until golden brown and caramelized. Work in batches if necessary.

Step 9

Remove the sauteed bananas from the skillet and arrange them on serving plates.

Step 10

Spoon the warm cardamom praline sauce generously over the bananas.

Step 11

Serve immediately, optionally with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream for extra indulgence.
