  • 1 pound Italian sausage (mild or spicy, casings removed)

  • 28 ounces Crushed tomatoes
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • 0.5 teaspoon Red pepper flakes (optional)
  • 0.25 cup Fresh basil leaves, chopped
  • 2 cups Mozzarella cheese, shredded
  • 0.5 cup Parmesan cheese, grated
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 0.5 teaspoon Black pepper

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).

Cook the penne pasta in a large pot of salted boiling water according to package directions until al dente. Drain and set aside.

In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium-high heat. Add the Italian sausage, breaking it into small pieces with a wooden spoon, and cook until fully browned. Remove the sausage from the skillet and set aside.
