Ingredients

  • 500 g ground sausage
  • 250 g all-purpose flour
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • 3 large eggs
  • 125 ml whole milk
  • 75 g unsalted butter, melted and cooled
  • 150 g grated sharp cheddar cheese
  • 2 tbsp chopped parsley (optional)
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 0.5 tsp black pepper
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • 1 tsp garlic powder

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F). Grease and line a standard loaf pan with parchment paper for easy removal.

Step 2

In a skillet over medium heat, cook the ground sausage until browned and cooked through. Break it into small crumbles as it cooks, then drain any excess fat and set aside to cool slightly.

Step 3

In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, salt, black pepper, onion powder, and garlic powder.

Step 4

In a separate bowl, beat the eggs. Add the milk and melted butter, and whisk until well combined.

Step 5

Gradually pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients, mixing gently until just combined. Avoid overmixing to keep the cake light.

Step 6

Fold in the cooked sausage, grated cheddar cheese, and optional chopped parsley until evenly distributed in the batter.

Step 7

Pour the batter into the prepared loaf pan, spreading it evenly with a spatula.

Step 8

Bake in the preheated oven for 40-45 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean and the top is golden brown.

Step 9

Let the sausage cake cool in the pan for 10 minutes before transferring it to a wire rack to cool completely.

Step 10

Slice and serve warm or at room temperature. Enjoy your luscious and savory sausage cake!
