Ingredients

  • 250 grams ground sausage (mild or spicy, based on preference)
  • 1 large apple (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp, peeled and finely diced)
  • 2 sheets puff pastry sheets (thawed, if frozen)
  • 100 grams sharp cheddar cheese (shredded)
  • 1 large egg (beaten with 1 tablespoon water for egg wash)
  • 1 teaspoon fresh thyme leaves (optional, for garnish)

Directions

Step 1

Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

Step 2

In a skillet over medium heat, cook the ground sausage until browned and fully cooked, breaking it into small crumbles as it cooks. Drain any excess grease and set aside to cool slightly.

Step 3

In a mixing bowl, combine the cooked sausage, finely diced apple, and shredded cheddar cheese. Mix until well combined.

Step 4

On a lightly floured surface, roll out the puff pastry sheets to ensure they are smooth and even. Cut each sheet into 12 equal squares, making a total of 24 squares.

Step 5

Place about 1 tablespoon of the sausage-apple-cheese mixture in the center of each puff pastry square.

Step 6

Fold the corners of each square over the filling, pinching them together to seal and form a small bundle. Repeat for all the squares.

Step 7

Place the completed bundles onto the prepared baking sheet, seam-side down, ensuring there is space between each piece.

Step 8

Brush each bundle with the egg wash to achieve a golden finish when baked.

Step 9

Bake in the preheated oven for 20–25 minutes, or until the puff pastry is golden brown and flaky.

Step 10

Remove from the oven and allow to cool slightly before serving. Garnish with fresh thyme leaves, if desired.
