Ingredients

  • 500 grams Beef (chuck or sirloin) cut into 1-inch cubes
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 0.5 teaspoon Black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons Cornstarch
  • 2 tablespoons Vegetable oil
  • 1 medium Onion, finely diced
  • 3 cloves Garlic, minced
  • 3 tablespoons Soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 250 milliliters Beef broth
  • 1 tablespoon Brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons Tomato paste
  • 1 teaspoon Paprika
  • 1 tablespoon Parsley, chopped for garnish (optional)

Directions

Step 1

In a large bowl, season the beef cubes with salt, black pepper, and 1 tablespoon of the cornstarch. Toss until well-coated.

Step 2

Heat the vegetable oil in a large skillet or pan over medium-high heat. Add the beef cubes in batches to avoid overcrowding the pan and sear them on all sides until browned. This will take about 5-6 minutes per batch. Remove and set aside.

Step 3

In the same skillet, lower the heat to medium and sauté the diced onion for 3-4 minutes until softened. Add the minced garlic and cook for another 1 minute until fragrant.

Step 4

Stir in the soy sauce, Worcestershire sauce, beef broth, brown sugar, tomato paste, and paprika. Whisk until the sauce is well combined.

Step 5

Bring the sauce to a gentle simmer, then return the seared beef cubes to the skillet. Stir to coat the beef in the sauce.

Step 6

Cover the pan, lower the heat to medium-low, and let the beef simmer for 20-25 minutes or until it's tender and the sauce has thickened slightly.

Step 7

In a small bowl, mix the remaining 1 tablespoon of cornstarch with 2 tablespoons of water to create a slurry. Stir this into the skillet and cook for another 2-3 minutes, allowing the sauce to thicken further.

Step 8

Taste and adjust seasoning with additional salt or pepper if needed.

Step 9

Garnish with chopped parsley before serving, if desired. Serve hot over rice, mashed potatoes, or noodles for a complete and comforting meal.
