Ingredients

  • 500 g Ground beef
  • 2 tbsp Olive oil
  • 1 medium, finely chopped Onion
  • 3 minced Garlic cloves
  • 2 medium, diced Carrot
  • 2 diced Celery stalks
  • 400 g Canned crushed tomatoes
  • 250 ml Beef broth
  • 2 tbsp Tomato paste
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tsp Dried thyme
  • 1 tsp Dried oregano
  • 1 tsp Salt
  • 0.5 tsp Black pepper
  • 2 tbsp All-purpose flour
  • 0 Cooked pasta or mashed potatoes (optional, for serving)
  • 2 tbsp, chopped (for garnish) Fresh parsley

Directions

Step 1

Heat a large skillet or casserole dish over medium-high heat. Add 1 tablespoon of olive oil and cook the ground beef until browned, breaking it apart with a wooden spoon. Remove the beef and set aside.

Step 2

Add the remaining 1 tablespoon of olive oil to the same skillet. Stir in the chopped onion and cook for 3-4 minutes until softened.

Step 3

Add the minced garlic, diced carrot, and diced celery to the skillet. Cook for an additional 5 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the vegetables start to soften.

Step 4

Sprinkle the all-purpose flour over the vegetable mixture and stir well to coat evenly. This will help thicken the sauce.

Step 5

Return the cooked ground beef to the skillet and mix it with the vegetables.

Step 6

Pour in the canned crushed tomatoes and beef broth. Stir in the tomato paste, Worcestershire sauce, thyme, oregano, salt, and black pepper. Bring the mixture to a simmer.

Step 7

Reduce the heat to low and cover the skillet. Let the casserole simmer gently for 30-40 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the flavors meld together and the sauce thickens.

Step 8

Taste and adjust seasoning as needed. If the mixture becomes too thick, add a splash of beef broth or water to loosen it.

Step 9

Serve the saucy beef casserole hot over cooked pasta or mashed potatoes, if desired. Garnish with freshly chopped parsley before serving.
