Ingredients

  • 500 grams ground beef
  • 250 grams ground pork
  • 100 grams breadcrumbs
  • 50 grams Parmesan cheese, grated
  • 3 pieces garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 large egg
  • 60 ml milk
  • 15 grams fresh parsley, chopped
  • 3 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 large onion, finely chopped
  • 800 grams canned crushed tomatoes
  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 0.5 teaspoon black pepper
  • 400 grams spaghetti
  • 4 liters water

Directions

Step 1

In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, ground pork, breadcrumbs, grated Parmesan cheese, minced garlic, egg, milk, and chopped parsley. Add a pinch of salt and pepper, then mix thoroughly until the ingredients are evenly combined.

Step 2

Shape the mixture into 20–24 small meatballs, roughly the size of a golf ball. Place them on a tray and set aside.

Step 3

Heat 2 tablespoons of olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the meatballs in batches and fry them until browned on all sides, about 4–5 minutes per batch. Remove and set aside on a plate lined with paper towels.

Step 4

In the same skillet, add the remaining 1 tablespoon of olive oil and the chopped onion. Sauté until the onion is soft and translucent, about 5 minutes.

Step 5

Stir in the crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, oregano, basil, sugar, salt, and black pepper. Bring the sauce to a gentle simmer.

Step 6

Return the meatballs to the skillet, nestling them into the sauce. Cover and simmer on low heat for 25–30 minutes, stirring occasionally to prevent sticking.

Step 7

While the meatballs are cooking, bring 4 liters of water to a boil in a large pot. Add a generous pinch of salt and cook the spaghetti according to the package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.

Step 8

Serve the meatballs and marinara over the spaghetti. Garnish with extra grated Parmesan and fresh parsley, if desired. Serve hot and enjoy!
