Ingredients

  • 1 pre-made or homemade (9-inch crust) Pie crust
  • 8 slices Bacon
  • 1 medium (finely chopped) Onion
  • 1.5 cups (shredded) Swiss cheese
  • 3 large Eggs
  • 1 cup Heavy cream
  • 0.5 cup Milk
  • 0.5 teaspoons Salt
  • 0.25 teaspoons Black pepper
  • 0.125 teaspoons (optional, freshly grated) Nutmeg

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).

Step 2

Place the pie crust in a 9-inch pie pan. Trim and crimp the edges as needed. Set aside.

Step 3

In a large skillet, cook the bacon over medium heat until crispy. Remove the bacon from the skillet, drain on paper towels, and crumble it into small pieces once cooled.

Step 4

In the same skillet, leave about 1 tablespoon of the rendered bacon fat and sauté the onion over medium heat until softened and lightly golden, about 5-7 minutes. Remove from heat and let cool slightly.

Step 5

Sprinkle the bottom of the pie crust with the shredded Swiss cheese, followed by the crumbled bacon and sautéed onions. Spread them evenly.

Step 6

In a mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, heavy cream, milk, salt, black pepper, and nutmeg (if using). Mix until smooth and well combined.

Step 7

Pour the egg mixture over the cheese, bacon, and onions in the pie crust. Ensure the filling is evenly distributed.

Step 8

Place the pie on the center rack of the preheated oven and bake for 35-40 minutes, or until the filling is set and the top is lightly golden. A knife inserted into the center should come out clean.

Step 9

Remove the pie from the oven and let it cool for 5-10 minutes before slicing.

Step 10

Serve warm and enjoy your Sarasota's Simple Swiss Bacon Onion Pie!
