Ingredients

  • 1 pre-made (or homemade) Pie crust
  • 2 medium, peeled, cored, and thinly sliced Apples
  • 2 medium, peeled, cored, and thinly sliced Pears
  • 3 tablespoons Granulated sugar
  • 2 tablespoons Brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon All-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon Ground cinnamon
  • 0.25 teaspoon Ground nutmeg
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla extract
  • 2 tablespoons, chopped into small pieces Unsalted butter
  • 1 large, beaten (for egg wash) Egg
  • 1 tablespoon (optional, for garnish) Powdered sugar

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

Step 2

Roll out the pie crust on the parchment-lined baking sheet. Set aside.

Step 3

In a large mixing bowl, combine the sliced apples, sliced pears, granulated sugar, brown sugar, all-purpose flour, ground cinnamon, ground nutmeg, and vanilla extract. Toss gently to coat the fruit evenly.

Step 4

Arrange the fruit mixture in the center of the rolled-out pie crust, leaving about a 2-inch border around the edges.

Step 5

Fold the edges of the crust over the fruit, pleating as needed to create a rustic tart shape. The center should remain exposed.

Step 6

Dot the top of the fruit with small pieces of unsalted butter.

Step 7

Brush the folded edges of the crust with the beaten egg to give it a golden, shiny finish.

Step 8

Bake the tart in the preheated oven for 35-40 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and the fruit is tender.

Step 9

Remove the tart from the oven and let it cool slightly on the baking sheet.

Step 10

Optionally, dust the tart with powdered sugar before serving for a decorative touch.

Step 11

Slice and serve warm or at room temperature. Enjoy!
