Ingredients

  • 1 pound Ground beef
  • 1 small Yellow onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves Garlic clove, minced
  • 1 cup Marinara sauce
  • 1.5 cups Shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 2 packages Refrigerated pizza dough
  • 1 large Egg, beaten
  • 1 tablespoon Olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • 0.5 teaspoon Salt
  • 0.25 teaspoon Black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons All-purpose flour (for dusting)

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

Step 2

In a large skillet over medium heat, heat the olive oil. Add the chopped onion and sauté for 3 minutes until softened.

Step 3

Stir in the minced garlic and cook for another 1 minute until fragrant.

Step 4

Add the ground beef to the skillet, breaking it apart with a spoon, and cook until browned, about 6-8 minutes. Drain any excess fat.

Step 5

Stir in the marinara sauce, Italian seasoning, salt, and black pepper, then remove the skillet from heat. Let the mixture cool slightly.

Step 6

On a lightly floured work surface, roll out the pizza dough into thin sheets. Use a 4-inch round cookie cutter to cut out circles from the dough.

Step 7

Scoop 1-2 tablespoons of the beef mixture onto the center of each dough circle. Top with a sprinkle of shredded mozzarella cheese.

Step 8

Fold each dough circle in half to cover the filling, creating a semi-circle. Press the edges firmly with a fork to seal.

Step 9

Place the calzones on the prepared baking sheet and brush each with the beaten egg for a golden finish.

Step 10

Bake the calzones in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until they are golden brown and cooked through.

Step 11

Allow the calzones to cool for 5 minutes before serving. Serve warm with extra marinara sauce on the side for dipping.
