Ingredients

  • 6 large Granny Smith apples
  • 2 tablespoons Lemon juice
  • 0.75 cup Brown sugar
  • 0.25 cup Granulated sugar
  • 1.5 teaspoons Ground cinnamon
  • 0.5 teaspoons Ground nutmeg
  • 0.25 teaspoons Ground allspice
  • 3 tablespoons Cornstarch
  • 0.25 teaspoons Salt
  • 1 cup Water
  • 2 tablespoons Unsalted butter

Directions

Step 1

Peel, core, and slice the Granny Smith apples into 1/4-inch thick slices. Place the slices in a large mixing bowl and toss with the lemon juice to prevent browning.

Step 2

In a medium-sized saucepan, combine the brown sugar, granulated sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, allspice, cornstarch, salt, and water. Stir well to eliminate any lumps.

Step 3

Place the saucepan over medium heat and cook the mixture while stirring constantly until it begins to thicken and bubble, about 3-5 minutes.

Step 4

Add the apple slices to the saucepan and stir to coat them evenly in the spiced sauce. Continue to cook for another 5-7 minutes, or until the apples just begin to soften.

Step 5

Stir in the unsalted butter until it melts and incorporates fully into the filling.

Step 6

Remove the saucepan from heat and allow the apple pie filling to cool completely before using. The filling will thicken further as it cools.

Step 7

Use immediately as a filling for pies, tarts, or other desserts, or transfer to an airtight container and refrigerate for up to 5 days.
