Ingredients

  • 500 g ground beef (80% lean)
  • 2 red chili, finely chopped
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 small onion, finely grated
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • 1 tsp ground cumin
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 0.5 tsp black pepper
  • 2 tbsp fresh cilantro, chopped
  • 50 g breadcrumbs
  • 1 egg
  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 4 burger buns
  • 4 lettuce leaves
  • 1 large tomato, sliced
  • 4 cheddar cheese slices
  • 4 tbsp mayonnaise
  • 2 tbsp ketchup
  • 8 pieces pickled jalapeños, sliced

Directions

Step 1

In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, red chili, minced garlic, grated onion, paprika, ground cumin, salt, black pepper, chopped cilantro, breadcrumbs, and egg. Mix well until all ingredients are evenly combined.

Step 2

Shape the mixture into 4 equal-sized burger patties. Make a small indent in the center of each patty to prevent them from puffing up during cooking.

Step 3

Heat the vegetable oil in a large skillet or grill pan over medium-high heat. Add the patties and cook for 4-5 minutes on each side, or until cooked through and slightly charred on the outside.

Step 4

During the last minute of cooking, place a slice of cheddar cheese on top of each patty and cover the skillet with a lid to allow the cheese to melt.

Step 5

Toast the burger buns lightly in a grill pan or toaster for about 1 minute, until golden brown.

Step 6

In a small bowl, mix the mayonnaise and ketchup to make a simple burger sauce.

Step 7

Assemble the burgers: spread the burger sauce on the bottom half of each bun, then layer with a lettuce leaf, a slice of tomato, the cooked burger patty with melted cheese, and pickled jalapeños. Top with the upper half of the bun.

Step 8

Serve immediately with your favorite sides like fries or a fresh salad. Enjoy!
