Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 tsp ground cumin
  • 1 tsp smoked paprika
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 0.5 tsp salt
  • 0.5 tsp black pepper
  • 4 slices pepper jack cheese
  • 4 hamburger buns
  • 1 avocado
  • 1 tbsp lime juice
  • 0.25 cup chipotle mayo
  • 4 lettuce leaves
  • 1 tomato
  • 0.5 red onion

Directions

Step 1

In a mixing bowl, combine ground beef, cumin, smoked paprika, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper. Mix well and divide into 4 equal portions. Shape each portion into a patty about ¾ inch thick.

Step 2

Heat a grill or stovetop grill pan over medium-high heat. Cook the patties for about 4-5 minutes per side, or until they reach your desired level of doneness.

Step 3

In the last 2 minutes of cooking, place a slice of pepper jack cheese on each patty. Cover with a lid or foil to melt the cheese.

Step 4

While the patties cook, slice the avocado and toss with lime juice to prevent browning. Slice the tomato and red onion into thin rounds.

Step 5

Toast the hamburger buns lightly on the grill or in a toaster.

Step 6

Spread chipotle mayo on the cut sides of each bun. Place a lettuce leaf on the bottom bun, followed by a tomato slice, a cooked patty with melted cheese, avocado slices, and a few rings of red onion. Top with the other half of the bun.

Step 7

Serve immediately and enjoy your Santa Fe Burger with your favorite side dish!
