Ingredients

  • 1 cup Whole milk
  • 0.25 cup Granulated sugar
  • 2.25 teaspoons Active dry yeast
  • 6 tablespoons Unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 Egg
  • 3.5 cups All-purpose flour
  • 0.5 teaspoon Salt
  • 0.75 cup Brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons Ground cinnamon
  • 4 tablespoons Unsalted butter, softened (for filling)
  • 1.5 cups Powdered sugar
  • 4 ounces Cream cheese, softened
  • 2 tablespoons Unsalted butter, softened (for frosting)
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla extract
  • 2 tablespoons Whole milk (for frosting)

Directions

Step 1

Warm the milk in a small saucepan over low heat until it reaches about 110°F. Remove from heat and stir in the granulated sugar until dissolved. Sprinkle the yeast over the milk and let it sit for 5-10 minutes until foamy.

Step 2

In a large mixing bowl, combine the melted butter, egg, and salt. Add the yeast mixture and stir to combine.

Step 3

Gradually add the flour, one cup at a time, mixing until a soft dough forms. Knead the dough on a lightly floured surface for about 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.

Step 4

Place the dough in a lightly greased bowl, cover with a clean kitchen towel, and let it rise in a warm place for 1 hour or until doubled in size.

Step 5

In a small bowl, mix together the brown sugar and ground cinnamon for the filling.

Step 6

After the dough has risen, roll it out on a floured surface into a 12x18 inch rectangle.

Step 7

Spread the softened butter for the filling evenly over the dough. Sprinkle the cinnamon-sugar mixture evenly on top.

Step 8

Starting from the long edge, tightly roll the dough into a log. Cut the log into 12 equal pieces and place them in a greased 9x13 inch baking dish.

Step 9

Cover the baking dish with a towel and let the rolls rise for 30-40 minutes until puffy.

Step 10

Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake the rolls for 20-25 minutes, or until golden brown.

Step 11

While the rolls bake, make the frosting. In a medium bowl, beat together the powdered sugar, cream cheese, softened butter, vanilla extract, and milk until smooth and creamy.

Step 12

Once the rolls are out of the oven, let them cool for 10 minutes, then generously spread the frosting over the top. Serve warm and enjoy!
