Ingredients

  • 1 cup Whole milk
  • 4 tablespoons Unsalted butter
  • 0.25 cup Granulated sugar
  • 2.25 teaspoons Active dry yeast
  • 0.25 cup Warm water
  • 4 cups All-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 2 large Eggs
  • 1 cup Brown sugar
  • 1.5 tablespoons Ground cinnamon
  • 0.75 cup Heavy cream
  • 1 cup Pecans (optional, chopped)
  • 2 teaspoons Vanilla extract

Directions

Step 1

In a small saucepan over medium heat, warm the milk and butter until the butter is melted. Remove from heat and let cool to lukewarm.

Step 2

In a small bowl, stir together the warm water and granulated sugar. Sprinkle the yeast over the top and let it sit for 5-10 minutes, until foamy.

Step 3

In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour and salt. Add the milk and butter mixture, yeast mixture, and eggs. Mix until a dough forms.

Step 4

Knead the dough on a lightly floured surface for about 8-10 minutes, or until smooth and elastic. Alternatively, use a stand mixer with a dough hook for 5 minutes.

Step 5

Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a damp towel, and let rise in a warm place for 1-1.5 hours, or until doubled in size.

Step 6

To prepare the filling, combine the brown sugar and cinnamon in a small bowl.

Step 7

Roll the risen dough into a large rectangle (about 16x12 inches) on a floured surface. Spread 3 tablespoons of softened butter over the dough, leaving a 1/2-inch border. Sprinkle the cinnamon-sugar filling evenly over the buttered dough.

Step 8

Roll up the dough tightly from the long side, pinching the seam to seal. Slice the roll into 12 even pieces.

Step 9

For the caramel glaze, combine the heavy cream, remaining butter (1 tablespoon), and vanilla extract in a medium bowl. Add chopped pecans, if using, and mix well. Pour the glaze into the bottom of a greased 9x13-inch baking dish.

Step 10

Place the sliced buns cut-side up on top of the glaze, spacing them evenly. Cover the dish with plastic wrap and let the buns rise for another 30-45 minutes, or until puffy.

Step 11

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake the buns for 25-30 minutes, or until golden brown and baked through.

Step 12

Let the buns cool for 5 minutes, then carefully invert the baking dish onto a serving platter, allowing the caramel glaze to drizzle over the top.

Step 13

Serve warm and enjoy your festive Santa’s Sticky Buns!
