Ingredients

  • 4 cups canned navy beans
  • 6 slices bacon
  • 1 large, diced onion
  • 0.5 cup ketchup
  • 0.25 cup molasses
  • 0.25 cup brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon yellow mustard
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 0.5 teaspoon salt
  • 0.5 teaspoon black pepper
  • 0.5 cup water

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).

Step 2

In a large skillet, cook the bacon over medium heat until crispy. Remove the bacon and set it aside on a plate lined with paper towels. Reserve about 2 tablespoons of the bacon grease in the skillet.

Step 3

In the same skillet with the bacon grease, add the diced onion. Sauté until the onions are translucent and softened, about 5 minutes.

Step 4

In a large mixing bowl, combine the canned navy beans, sautéed onions, ketchup, molasses, brown sugar, apple cider vinegar, yellow mustard, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, smoked paprika, salt, black pepper, and water. Stir well to combine.

Step 5

Chop the cooked bacon into small pieces and stir it into the bean mixture.

Step 6

Transfer the mixture into a large, oven-safe baking dish and spread it out evenly.

Step 7

Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil and bake in the preheated oven for 1 hour.

Step 8

After 1 hour, remove the foil and bake uncovered for an additional 30 minutes, or until the top is slightly caramelized and the sauce has thickened.

Step 9

Remove from the oven and let cool for 10 minutes before serving.

Step 10

Serve warm as a side dish or pair with cornbread for a hearty meal.
