Ingredients

  • 4 medium ripe tomatoes
  • 0.5 medium red onion
  • 1 medium jalapeño
  • 2 cloves garlic
  • 0.5 cup fresh cilantro
  • 1 medium lime
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 0.5 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 0.25 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil

Directions

Step 1

Start by washing all the vegetables and the cilantro under cold water to remove any dirt or impurities.

Step 2

Dice the tomatoes into small, even pieces and place them in a large mixing bowl.

Step 3

Mince half a medium red onion finely and add it to the bowl with the tomatoes.

Step 4

Cut the jalapeño in half lengthwise and remove the seeds and membrane for a milder salsa, or leave them in for extra heat. Finely chop the jalapeño and add it to the bowl.

Step 5

Peel and mince the garlic cloves, then add them to the mix.

Step 6

Finely chop the fresh cilantro leaves, discarding the thicker stems, and add 1/2 cup of chopped cilantro to the bowl.

Step 7

Roll the lime on a countertop to loosen its juices, then cut it in half and squeeze the juice into the bowl, taking care to remove any seeds.

Step 8

Season the salsa with 1 teaspoon of salt, 1/2 teaspoon of ground cumin, and 1/4 teaspoon of black pepper.

Step 9

Drizzle 1 tablespoon of olive oil over the mixture to add a silky texture and richness.

Step 10

Gently stir all the ingredients together until well combined. Taste and adjust seasoning with more salt or lime juice if needed.

Step 11

Let the salsa sit for at least 10 minutes to allow the flavors to meld together before serving.

Step 12

Serve immediately with tortilla chips, or use as a topping for tacos, grilled meats, or salads. Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
