Ingredients

  • 4 pieces salmon fillets
  • 0.5 cup soy sauce
  • 0.5 cup mirin
  • 0.25 cup sake
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon ginger, finely grated
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • 1 tablespoon sesame seeds
  • 2 pieces scallions, thinly sliced

Directions

Step 1

In a bowl, combine soy sauce, mirin, sake, brown sugar, minced garlic, and grated ginger. Stir until the sugar is dissolved to create the teriyaki sauce.

Step 2

Place the salmon fillets in a shallow dish. Pour half of the teriyaki sauce over the fillets, ensuring each piece is well-coated. Reserve the remaining sauce.

Step 3

Cover and marinate the salmon in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes or up to 2 hours.

Step 4

Heat the vegetable oil in a large non-stick skillet over medium-high heat.

Step 5

Remove the salmon from the marinade, letting the excess drip off. Discard the marinade.

Step 6

Place the salmon fillets skin-side up in the skillet and cook for 4-5 minutes until browned.

Step 7

Flip the salmon fillets and cook for another 4-5 minutes, or until the salmon is cooked through and flakes easily with a fork.

Step 8

Transfer the salmon to a plate and cover to keep warm.

Step 9

In the same skillet, pour in the reserved teriyaki sauce. Cook over medium heat until it begins to thicken, about 3-4 minutes.

Step 10

Return the salmon fillets to the skillet and spoon the thickened sauce over them to glaze.

Step 11

Sprinkle the salmon with sesame seeds and garnish with sliced scallions before serving.
