Ingredients

  • 4 pieces salmon steaks
  • 60 ml soy sauce
  • 60 ml mirin (sweet rice wine)
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon fresh ginger, grated
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon sesame seeds
  • 2 stalks green onions, thinly sliced

Directions

Step 1

In a medium bowl, whisk together the soy sauce, mirin, sugar, minced garlic, and grated ginger until the sugar has dissolved. This is the teriyaki marinade and sauce.

Step 2

Place the salmon steaks in a shallow dish and pour half of the marinade over them. Reserve the other half of the marinade for the sauce later. Allow the salmon to marinate for 15 minutes, flipping halfway through.

Step 3

Heat a large non-stick skillet over medium heat and add 2 tablespoons of olive oil.

Step 4

Remove the salmon from the marinade and pat dry with paper towels. Carefully place the salmon steaks into the hot skillet and cook for about 3-4 minutes on each side or until they are golden and cooked through.

Step 5

While the salmon is cooking, pour the reserved marinade into a small saucepan and simmer over medium heat for 3-4 minutes to thicken slightly.

Step 6

Once the salmon is cooked, remove it from the skillet and plate it. Drizzle the thickened teriyaki sauce over the salmon.

Step 7

Garnish each steak with a sprinkle of sesame seeds and thinly sliced green onions.

Step 8

Serve immediately with steamed rice or vegetables on the side for a complete meal.
