Ingredients

  • 4 pieces salmon steaks
  • 0.25 cup soy sauce
  • 0.25 cup mirin (sweet rice wine)
  • 2 tablespoons sake
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon fresh ginger, grated
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • 1 lime, cut into wedges
  • 1 teaspoon sesame seeds
  • 2 green onions, chopped

Directions

Step 1

In a small bowl, combine the soy sauce, mirin, sake, brown sugar, grated ginger, minced garlic, and sesame oil. Mix well to make the marinade.

Step 2

Place the salmon steaks in a shallow dish or a resealable plastic bag. Pour the marinade over the salmon, ensuring it is well-coated. Cover and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes, or up to 2 hours for more flavor.

Step 3

Remove the salmon steaks from the marinade and pat them dry with paper towels. Reserve the marinade for later use.

Step 4

Heat a nonstick skillet or grill pan over medium heat. Lightly oil the surface to prevent sticking.

Step 5

Cook the salmon steaks for 3-4 minutes on each side, or until the internal temperature reaches 145°F (63°C) and the fish flakes easily with a fork.

Step 6

While the salmon cooks, pour the reserved marinade into a small saucepan. Bring it to a boil, then reduce the heat and simmer for 2-3 minutes until it thickens slightly into a glaze.

Step 7

Drizzle the thickened glaze over the cooked salmon steaks and garnish with sesame seeds and chopped green onions.

Step 8

Serve hot with lime wedges on the side for an extra burst of citrus flavor.
