Ingredients

  • 1 pound Ground beef
  • 0.5 cup Breadcrumbs
  • 1 large Egg
  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tablespoon Ketchup
  • 0.5 teaspoon Garlic powder
  • 0.5 teaspoon Onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 0.5 teaspoon Pepper
  • 2 tablespoons Olive oil
  • 2 tablespoons Butter
  • 1 large Yellow onion, sliced
  • 8 ounces Mushrooms, sliced
  • 2 cups Beef broth
  • 2 tablespoons Flour
  • 1 tablespoon Soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon Parsley, chopped (optional, for garnish)

Directions

Step 1

In a mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, Worcestershire sauce, ketchup, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Mix well until combined.

Step 2

Divide the mixture into 4 equal portions and shape each into an oval patty about 1/2 inch thick.

Step 3

Heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the patties and cook for 3-4 minutes per side, or until browned. Remove the patties from the skillet and set aside.

Step 4

In the same skillet, lower the heat to medium and add the remaining 1 tablespoon of olive oil and the butter. Once melted, add the sliced onion and mushrooms. Sauté for 5-7 minutes, or until the onions are softened and the mushrooms are golden brown.

Step 5

Sprinkle the flour over the onions and mushrooms. Stir and cook for 1-2 minutes to eliminate the raw flour taste.

Step 6

Slowly add the beef broth to the skillet, whisking constantly to prevent lumps. Add the soy sauce and stir to combine.

Step 7

Return the beef patties to the skillet, nestling them into the gravy. Lower the heat to a simmer, cover the skillet, and cook for 10 minutes, or until the patties are fully cooked and the gravy is thickened.

Step 8

Taste the gravy and adjust seasoning with additional salt and pepper if needed.

Step 9

Serve the Salisbury steaks hot, smothered in mushroom gravy, over mashed potatoes, rice, or egg noodles. Garnish with freshly chopped parsley if desired.
