Ingredients

  • 1 pound Ground beef
  • 0.5 cup Breadcrumbs
  • 1 large Egg
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tablespoon Ketchup
  • 0.5 teaspoon Garlic powder
  • 0.5 teaspoon Onion powder
  • 0.5 teaspoon Salt
  • 0.25 teaspoon Black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon Olive oil
  • 2 tablespoons Unsalted butter
  • 8 ounces Mushrooms
  • 1 medium Onion
  • 2 cups Beef broth
  • 1 tablespoon Cornstarch
  • 2 tablespoons Water
  • 1 tablespoon Fresh parsley

Directions

Step 1

In a large mixing bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, Worcestershire sauce, ketchup, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and black pepper. Mix until well combined.

Step 2

Divide the mixture into 4 equal portions and shape them into oval patties, about 3/4-inch thick.

Step 3

Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the beef patties and cook for 4–5 minutes per side, or until browned. Remove the patties from the skillet and set aside.

Step 4

In the same skillet, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the sliced mushrooms and diced onion. Cook, stirring occasionally, for 5–6 minutes, or until the mushrooms are browned and the onions are softened.

Step 5

Pour the beef broth into the skillet, scraping up any browned bits from the bottom. Bring to a simmer.

Step 6

In a small bowl, mix the cornstarch and water until smooth. Add this mixture to the skillet and stir well to thicken the sauce.

Step 7

Return the beef patties to the skillet, spooning the mushroom gravy over the top. Cover and simmer for 10 minutes, or until the patties are cooked through.

Step 8

Garnish with freshly chopped parsley and serve hot with mashed potatoes or steamed vegetables.
