Ingredients

  • 1 lb Ground beef
  • 0.5 cup Plain breadcrumbs
  • 1 Egg
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tsp Garlic powder
  • 1 tsp Onion powder
  • 0.5 tsp Salt
  • 0.5 tsp Black pepper
  • 8 oz Button mushrooms
  • 2 tbsp Unsalted butter
  • 2 tbsp All-purpose flour
  • 2 cups Beef broth
  • 1 tbsp Soy sauce
  • 2 tbsp Fresh parsley (optional, for garnish)

Directions

Step 1

In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and black pepper. Mix until just combined, being careful not to overwork the mixture.

Step 2

Divide the mixture into 4 equal portions and shape each into an oval patty about 1/2 inch thick.

Step 3

Heat a large skillet over medium heat and lightly grease it with a small amount of butter or oil. Cook the patties for 3-4 minutes on each side, or until browned. Remove from the skillet and set aside; patties will finish cooking in the gravy.

Step 4

In the same skillet, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the mushrooms and sauté for 5-7 minutes, or until softened and browned. Stir occasionally.

Step 5

Sprinkle the flour over the mushrooms and cook for 1-2 minutes, stirring constantly to eliminate the raw flour taste.

Step 6

Slowly whisk in the beef broth, making sure there are no lumps. Add the soy sauce and bring the mixture to a simmer. Cook for 3-5 minutes, or until the gravy has thickened to your liking.

Step 7

Return the browned patties to the skillet, nestling them into the gravy. Lower the heat and cover the skillet. Let them simmer for 10-12 minutes, flipping once, until the patties are fully cooked through (internal temperature of 160°F).

Step 8

Garnish with fresh parsley, if desired, and serve hot with mashed potatoes, rice, or steamed vegetables.
