Ingredients

  • 1 lb Ground beef (80/20 blend)
  • 0.5 cup Breadcrumbs
  • 2 tbsp Milk
  • 1 large Egg
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tsp Onion powder
  • 1 tsp Garlic powder
  • 1 tsp Salt
  • 0.5 tsp Black pepper
  • 2 tbsp Olive oil
  • 2 tbsp Unsalted butter
  • 1 medium Yellow onion, thinly sliced
  • 8 oz White mushrooms, sliced
  • 2 cups Beef broth
  • 2 tbsp All-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce (for gravy)
  • 1 tbsp Fresh parsley, chopped

Directions

Step 1

In a large mixing bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, milk, egg, Worcestershire sauce, onion powder, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper. Mix gently with your hands until just combined, being careful not to overmix.

Step 2

Divide the mixture into four equal portions and shape each into oval patties about ¾ inch thick.

Step 3

In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium-high heat. Once hot, add the patties and cook for 4-5 minutes per side until browned but not fully cooked through. Remove the patties from the skillet and set aside on a plate.

Step 4

Reduce the heat to medium and add the butter to the skillet. Once melted, add the sliced onions and mushrooms. Sauté for 5-6 minutes until softened and slightly caramelized.

Step 5

Sprinkle the flour over the onion and mushroom mixture and stir well to coat. Cook for 1 minute to remove the raw flour taste.

Step 6

Gradually whisk in the beef broth, making sure to scrape up any browned bits from the bottom of the skillet. Stir in the Worcestershire sauce and bring the mixture to a simmer.

Step 7

Return the Salisbury steak patties to the skillet, nestling them into the gravy. Cover the skillet with a lid and let simmer for 10 minutes, or until the patties are cooked through and the gravy has thickened.

Step 8

Garnish with freshly chopped parsley and serve hot with mashed potatoes or egg noodles alongside steamed vegetables for a complete meal.
