Ingredients

  • 8 oz ground beef
  • 2 tbsp breadcrumbs
  • 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 0.5 tsp dried parsley
  • 0.5 tsp garlic powder
  • 0.25 tsp salt
  • 0.25 tsp black pepper
  • 1 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 1 tbsp unsalted butter
  • 0.5 yellow onion, thinly sliced
  • 4 oz button mushrooms, sliced
  • 1 tbsp all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 1 tbsp ketchup
  • 1 tsp Dijon mustard

Directions

Step 1

In a mixing bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, Worcestershire sauce, dried parsley, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper. Mix gently until just combined and shape the mixture into 2 oval patties.

Step 2

Heat vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the beef patties and cook until browned on both sides, about 4-5 minutes per side. Remove the patties from the skillet and set aside.

Step 3

In the same skillet, add unsalted butter and melt over medium heat. Add the sliced onion and cook until softened, about 3-4 minutes. Stir in the sliced mushrooms and cook for another 3-4 minutes until the mushrooms are tender.

Step 4

Sprinkle the flour evenly over the onions and mushrooms. Stir to coat and cook for 1 minute to remove the raw flour taste.

Step 5

Gradually whisk in the beef broth, making sure to scrape up any browned bits from the bottom of the skillet for extra flavor. Stir in ketchup and Dijon mustard, and bring the gravy to a simmer.

Step 6

Return the beef patties to the skillet along with any accumulated juices. Spoon the gravy over the patties and reduce the heat to low. Cover and cook for 10-12 minutes, or until the patties are cooked through and the gravy thickens.

Step 7

Serve the Salisbury steaks hot, topped with the onion and mushroom gravy. Pair with mashed potatoes or steamed vegetables for a complete meal.
